The Process of Creating a New Single

“As I was listening to one of my favorite artists’ music, I discovered something that would make a great sample. Once I got a hold of it, I was inspired to create something around it. I started with a beat. I didn’t know what direction it would go in as far as genre.”

The song building begins, JSL continues… “Eventually I realized it would make a cool song…something with vocals. As the process progressed, I found a direction. I wanted it to be something I’ve never done. Something mysterious, spooky. The sound was pointing in that direction.”

“I had a friend that had recently passed. Back in the day we were as thick as thieves. I found an old voicemail she had left for me. As I listened to it, I knew exactly where the song would go. I wrote the lyrics around the voicemail, as a tribute to her, and the Nighttime was born.”
